Does Closing on a Home in New Jersey Automatically Trigger a Tax Re-assessment?

Taxes are not reassessed based on solely a sale.   The taxes are reassessed when there is an improvement done that would trigger a reassessment, when a town wide tax reassessment takes place, if a tax appeal is won, when a Certificate of Occupancy for New Construction is issued, when a subdivision occurs, when a lot becomes vacant, and when lots merge.   Also sometimes it takes a while for the reassessment to take place after a triggering event.
